I'm a French-British illustrator based in London. After graduating with a Bachelor of Design for Performance from Central Saint Martins College of Design, I pursued a career as a costume designer for theatre and television, blending storytelling with highly visual fashion.

In 2021, I found myself jobless, with chronic illness, during a global pandemic. Delightful. To overcome adversity, my mother handed me a stack of plates and I started to draw. I drew from the moment I got up to the moment I went to bed.

On the walls of our home, my plates joined those of my mother, who was already painting on porcelain when she was pregnant with me. Orders for bespoke plates started pouring in as soon as I posted my work on Instagram, and since then, I haven't stopped drawing.

Today, over 40,7K people follow my work on Instagram, and I've painted more than 300 plates that have been shipped all over the world. Josephine Dessine is now a small team of four, and I work from my studio in Dalston.
